Turf FAQ

Lay sod for beautiful thick, green turf instantly.

Our turf is grown in the fertile Salmon River Valley at Westwold, B.C. for one full year before it is lifted.

We use a blend of Merion Kentucky Blue and Fescue grasses, blended for interior soil and climate.

How do I know how much turf I need?
Square/Rectangle Area = length x width
Circle Area = 3.14 (pi) x R2
Triangle Area= base x height divided by 2
Trapezoid Area= base 1 + base 2 divided by 2 x height
Irregular areas can be divided into sections of regular geometric shapes, calculate the area of each section, then total. 7

 Follow these steps for installation:

 - Loosen soil 2 to 4 inches deep with a rototiller, garden tractor or spade. Preparation is important.

- Level out low spots, smoothing slopes as gradual as possible. If needed, work peat moss into soil (2” depth). Use a roller to firm surface.

- Fertilize prior to laying sod. A fertilizer with sulphur in it (16-20 ammonium phosphate sulphate) helps to counteract the alkaline conditions common to the interior. Rake and roll a second time.

- Pre-water before laying sod. Moisture should extend down 18” to 24”.If soil is very dry, watering may require 2 to 4 hrs. On clay or compact soils regulate the watering period to prevent puddling.

- Lay sod strips to a straight edge; driveway, flower bed; or use a string starting line. Turf cuts easily with a butcher knife. Fill any cracks with soil.

- Water immediately after laying sod. Soak once a day, 2 to 3 hours during the first week. After sod starts to root, water once or twice a week for 3 to 4 hours. Once sod is well rooted you may reduce watering to normal levels. Fertilize again within 30 days.
